25 November, 2005: Jordan Friday Sermon

Amman Jordan Television Channel I in Arabic, official television station of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan carries at 0937 GMT a live sermon from martyr King Abdallah I mosque in Amman.

Shaykh Dr Wasif al-Bakri delivers the sermon, which he begins by saying that God honored the human being out of all creatures by giving him the faculties to inherit the earth and build it. He cites the Koranic verse: "Behold thy lord said to the angels: I will create a vicegerent on earth."

The imam then says: "Henceforth, an unemployed youth has no excuse not to look for a job, or rise above this or that job by claiming that it does not suit him or his social status." "It is time we overcame the culture of shame and the culture of showoff and acted according to the hadith: God loves the professional faithful," he says.

The imam devotes the second sermon to a prayer for the prophet and his four caliphs, family members, and companions.

He concludes with a prayer for pardon and mercy.
