March 27, 2006: CAIR, US Department of Justice Partner for “sensitivity” workshop

Well, the United States Department of Justice, the agency responsible for enforcing the laws of the United States, has once again chosen CAIR, the Washington, DC-based Council on American Islamic Relations, as a partner for a workshop aimed at “challenging hate”.

According to a press release issued today on the CAIR website at http://www.cair.com/default.asp?Page=articleView&id=2075&theType=NR, the workshop was presented at the University of Idaho by Corey Saylor , Government Affairs Director for CAIR, and Rosa Melendez, Community Relations Service Director fo the NW region of the Department of Justice.

Other participants in the seminar were:

  • Mayor, Pullman, WA
  • Police Chief, Pullman, WA
  • Head of the Latah County Human Rights Taskforce

In a recent article, Dr. Daniel Pipes and Sharon Chadha noted the following about CAIR:

    From Dr. Pipes' article:

Among the most indicting findings regarding CAIR:

    1) At least five of its employees and board members have been arrested, convicted, deported, or otherwise linked to terrorism-related charges and activities.

    2) It has proven links to Hamas and is involved in disrupting Israeli-Palestinian diplomacy.

    3) It impedes counter terrorism efforts by direct propaganda activities aimed at police, first-responders, and intelligence agencies.

    4) It apologizes for Islamist terrorism. CAIR has been on record defending Bin Laden pre-9/11, and criticizing the conviction of the perpetrators of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

    5) It has direct links with extremists in left and right camps in the U.S., sharing features with both.

    6) It receives foreign funding from organizations with ties to terrorism.

    7) It peddles Wahhabi doctrines, as its members regularly speak at events sponsored by the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), an umbrella organization of the Wahhabi lobby.

    8) It endorses Muslim supremacism: “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant.”

    9) It runs campaigns of intimidation against critics of Islam, including lawsuits, threats, career ruination, and allegations of apostasy.

    10) It falsifies its annual reports on the violation of Muslim civil rights in America to show a purported rise in the number of hate crimes directed at Muslims.

I’ve asked the question many times, as have many others, including the scholar Dr. Daniel Pipes, and JihadWatch director Robert Spencer: How can an organization with the track record of CAIR be selected over and over by the US government to teach it’s law enforcement agencies how to dear with potential terrorists?
