Authorities shut down Nashville interstate to investigate SUV
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities shut down all eight lanes of Interstate 24/40 in downtown Nashville after stopping a sport utility vehicle and finding firearms inside.
Officers also found a device that WSMV-TV reported was detonated on suspicion it might be an explosive.
A man and a woman traveling in the SUV were arrested and a small child with them was taken into protective custody, WKRN-TV reported.
News reports said handguns, a sawed off shotgun, an AK-47 rifle and body armor were found in the vehicle after it was stopped for failing to signal a lane change around 2 p.m.
Traffic backed up in miles for both directions as the interstate was closed. It reopened about 3:15 p.m.
