30 January 2006: American hostage Jill Carroll in tears in new video on Al Jazeera

A silent video aired earlier this afternoon on Al Jazeera showed a sobbing Jill Carroll, wearing a head scarf. (Al Jazeera says their policy is to not air the audio of videos such as this because they are upsetting to viewers.)

Al Jazeera's announcer said that Carroll asked the US military and the Iraqi Ministry of Interior to release all female hostages. According the the announcer, this would help win Carroll's freedom.

Carroll, a freelance reporter for the Chrstian Science Monitor, was kipnapped January 7 in Baghdad.
